Ottawa Union Station

The old Union Station is located at 2 Rideau Street in Ottawa. Initially called Grand Trunk Station, the building was constructed along with the prodigious Chateau Laurier to serve the increasing population of the Nation’s Capital. Completed in 1912, the opening of the renamed Union Station was not met with much fanfare, since Grand Trunk Railway general manager Charles Melville Hays had just perished in the Titanic disaster two months previously. Despite its tragic history and rumours of Hay’s restless spirit, the station served the city of Ottawa faithfully until 1966. Today, the building has been repurposed to temporarily house the Senate of Canada, and is likely only haunted by the spirits of disgruntled civil servants.
